Beware of cotton buds

Healthy ears produce wax, which doesn't need to be removed unless it causes dulled hearing, itchiness or discomfort. It protects and lubricates the skin lining the ear canal, then falls out of its own accord. Never put cotton buds into your ears, no matter how much you like the sensation! If necessary, see a doctor or nurse who can remove excess wax safely. There are various kinds of ear drops, but they may irritate the skin around the ear canal. Finally, don't lie down in the bath to wash your hair; there are always bacteria in the water that may get into your ears. This is just another example of how we put our ears at risk without thinking...

This is great information. Thanks I am going to pass it along to my kids, because my grandkids always have ear infections. It makes sense about laying down in the bath tub to wash your hair.

You know, we've been warned against this for a couple of years now, but I gotta tell you, there are few things less attractive than a dark yellow wax coating around the outer ear. Ick!
