I always used ginger when I'm cooking fish and meat. It is also a warming, antiseptic spice widely used in the East. It is considered one of the most important remedies, and traditional Chinese herbalists use some of the non-edible forms for the relief of arthritis, rheumatism and other inflammatory pains. Ginger is the best of all remedies for the prevention of travel sickness and early morning sickness in pregnancy. It's not only completely safe for children, mothers-to-be and the baby in the womb, but clinical trials have shown that it works even better than the normal prescription drugs.
It's effective against coughs, colds, bronchitis and sore throats, and half an inch of fresh ginger grated into hot water, lemon juice and honey as a bedtime drink is a perfect treatment for a cold.
As a nausea remedy, you can buy ginger tea-bags, but making your own tastes better and is very simple. Peel and grate half an inch of ginger root into a cup. Add boiling water, cover and stand for ten minutes. Strain, add a teaspoon of honey and sip slowly. For colds, flu or simply to ginger up body and mind, just add the juice of half a lemon.
Most exciting of all are the latest American studies which show that ginger extracts are just as good for the treatment of arthritis as the standard anti-inflammatory drugs - without any of their dangerous side effects.

i love ginger tea! I got this huge bottle of ginger tea with honey from a korean grocery and it is sooooo wonderful. and you're right, ginger is a miracle root. it heals a lot of stuff. that's why tinola and nilaga are good, too ;)
